Description

This Oriental Powder Mill's gunpowder keg is made of pine with four willow strips at the top and bottom of the keg. As indicated on a printed label at the top end of the keg, it held No. 3 fowl and rifle gunpowder, which was produced at the gunpowder mills located on the Presumpscot River between Gorham and Windham.

Also known as the Gambo Mill, the Oriental Powder Mill produced 25 percent of the gunpowder for the Union forces during the Civil War.
